Burgess Hill Small Makers Market Returns: A Celebration of Local Creativity

Updated: Oct 6

The much-loved Burgess Hill Small Makers Market is set to make its return on October 12th, bringing a renewed sense of excitement to the town. Originally launched in February 2024 by local entrepreneur Tasha Furminger, the market quickly became a community favourite, running five successful monthly events before pausing in June due to economic challenges. However, after an outpouring of positive messages in response to Furminger’s August announcement to close the market, the event is returning, much to the delight of both residents and vendors.

At its height, the market featured 46 stalls, offering a wide variety of unique, handmade products inside the Burgess Hill Academy Sports Hall. It became a showcase for local talent, with offerings such as dog treats, crystals, paint-poured bears, jewellery, soy candles, alternative gifts, resin creations, baby shower gifts, anime cards, and knitted items. More than just a market, it was a vibrant space where the community gathered to support local creativity.

The market’s return is about more than just providing a platform for local artisans. It plays a key role in bringing people into Burgess Hill, boosting footfall, and contributing to the town's prosperity. Events like this have a direct impact on the local economy, driving traffic to nearby businesses and helping to reinvigorate the town centre. With Burgess Hill, like many other small towns, facing economic challenges, initiatives set up by residents—such as this market—are essential to the town’s bounce-back and long-term prosperity.

The market has even caught the attention of key local figures, including Alison Bennett MP and Councillor Brenda Williams, who attended previous events and shared their support via social media, helping to promote its positive impact. Additionally, Local company Mid Sussex Marketing has played a role in assisting with promotion, ensuring that the market reaches an even wider audience.

With stalls priced at an accessible £15, or £20 with table hire, the market provides an affordable opportunity for local makers to showcase their products. Those interested in taking part in the October 12th event can contact Tasha Furminger at diamonddesignbytasha21@hotmail.com to secure a spot.

Don’t miss out on the chance to support local talent and contribute to the ongoing revitalisation of Burgess Hill. Markets like this are the heartbeat of our town, driving community spirit and economic growth. Be sure to join in and be part of the movement!
